Competition

Competition is a major (and fun!) part of the barbershop world that helps keep us focused on raising the bar of performing excellence. Each chorus (or quartet) works to perfect 2 songs before contest weekend. Then we cheer for each other, encourage all competing choruses and quartets...then once the medals have been handed out, we sing and party together with all our regional friends!

 

Regional

Every spring (between mid- March and mid-May) the Heart of Illinois Chorus competes in our regional contest.  The HOI Chorus is part of Midwest Gateway Region 5--which includes choruses in downstate Illinois, Eastern Iowa and Eastern Missouri.  There are four judging categories, and the Choruses and Quartets come prepared with entertaining  performance packages. The Quartet contest is typically on Friday evening, and the Choruses compete on Saturday afternoon. The Show of Champions and "Regional Parties" are on Saturday night. The next Region 5 Competition will be held March 23-24, 2012 in Springfield, IL. Competition sessions will be in the ballroom of the Headquarters Hotel... the Crowne Plaza. Please come be a part of the fun! International

Sometime in the fall the winners of all regional contests -- and a few "wildcards" -- gather together at International competition. The 2012 International competition will be held in Denver, CO from October 29-November 3. You can view the complete contest on a live webcast on the Sweet Adelines International website. This is the ultimate female barbershop competition -- not to be missed!
